Next week the MXGP of Russia will have a rare and special schedule.
Next week the MXGP of Russia will have a rare and special schedule with the racing taking place on Monday and Tuesday as opposed to the usual Saturday and Sunday program. This change comes due to the May 1st Holiday in Russia known as Labor and Spring day.
Spring and Labor Day is a major public holiday in Russia in which most banks, public buildings, and educational institutions are closed. The history of the holiday goes back well over a hundred years with May 1st being a day where workers in the once Soviet Union protested for better conditions and wages. Most Soviet cities had parades on the holiday until 1990 and since 1992 the day has been named Spring and Labor Day which many Russians now use as a day to relax and spend time with family and getting outside.
The holiday will join up with race day giving local fans a chance to witness the racing and spend their holiday at the world class MXGP event.
